Now, This Week’s IMG Community Chat Digest!

1. Naming GMBs

Members: Erwin Caniba, Vishal and Suzy B

Topic – General SEO

Summary:
I have a website that covers multiple geographies. What’s the best way to name the GMBs? Should I use: “keyword” or “keyword of +london”?

Vishal: #2 location in GMB title is a strong ranking factor but also attracts gmb suspension, #1 is a little more hard to rank but seems very safe long term…

2. Targeted keyword not in 100. Sitemap creating an issue?

Members: Bryan Halverson, Jake Boyle, Rafay Saleem, Kyle Roof and Yukinari M

Topic: General SEO

Summary:
I have an optimized page not showing in the top 100 results. I noticed the submitted sitemap is sitemap_index.xml and not sitemap.xml. Could this be the issue?…

Jake: Sitemap URL isn’t an issue, Bryan. Yoast’s default sitemap_index.xml is fine, provided that is the one you submitted to the search console…

3. Powering G Stacks

Members: James Goldsmith, Todd Weeks, Drew Downz, Terry Power, Suzy B and Simon White

Topics: General SEO
Summary: How are people powering up their G stacks?

Todd:
SEOAP, GSA, etc…

4. Best way to calculate word count for top 5 results

Members: Miklas Kroager, Kim Fredtoft, Vishal and Simon White

Topic: General SEO

Summary:
Have a list of 1,000 keywords. What would be the best way to scrape top 5 results for each keyword, and calculate the average amount of words?…

Kim: Post it as a job on Upwork. It’s hard to do without the right tools and/or the time…

5. Using “People Also Ask”

Members: Marc McDermott, Vishal, Swaraj Sahu and Simon White
Tags: General SEO

Summary:
Is it still recommended to use “people also ask” ideas for new support articles or is it better to add them to your existing money page as a FAQ?…

Vishal: If your website has high DA then I will add those as FAQ. If it’s a low authority site then I would use those to build silo/support articles. ….

6. Unclaimed GMB’s and Boosting GMB’s

Members: Laura Klein, Clint Butler, Carolyn Holzman, John O’Hara and Colin Tovey

Topic: General SEO

Summary:
Is it best to leave unclaimed GMB locations and other fake reviews (or real reviews)? Or is there a beter strategy for boosting GMBs?…

Clint : Unclaimed listings: Claim them all or someone else will try and could potentially harm the brand…

7. The “sweet spot” for blog post length, keywords etc

Topic: General SEO

Members: Brian Thomasson, Eric St-Cyr, Vishal and Clint Butler

Summary: What is “the sweet spot” for blog post length, keywords, variations, and/or long tail keywords in a blog post?

Eric:
Take a look at Page Optimizer Pro and the theory behind it, the sweet spot is established by the top searches on your keyword…

8. CTR Manipulation

Topic: Premium | Priority Questions

Members: Avnesh K, Suzy B, Dan Jones, Yaniv Gabay, and Lauren Proctor

Summary: Has anyone had a good experience with CTR manipulation? Any tests around this?…

Suzy : Although I’ve never used it, I wonder if a sudden spike on CTR would look unnatural, unless it occurs during seasonal times such as Black Friday…

Topic: Premium | Pro Tips & Tricks

Tutorial: Indexing & HTML Sitemaps

Kyle Roof

About the author

Kyle is best known for revealing the “secret” hidden in plain sight: Google’s algorithm is an algorithm. In other words, it all comes down to one thing - Math. Kyle demonstrated this by ranking number one in Google with a page consisting of gibberish text and only a handful of target keywords. Google actually punished him for exposing their algorithm by de-indexing 20 of his test sites and creating a rule in an attempt to de-value his efforts. Kyle has spent the past several years running more than 400 scientific SEO tests to better understand Google's algo. The combined results of those tests became the backbone of the popular SEO tool, PageOptimizer Pro, and they are implemented within his SEO agency on client sites. Kyle also shares his techniques in podcasts, at conferences around the world, and within the platform he co-founded, IMG, a sort of Netflix for SEOs with an active community aspect.
